The following officer elections were effective May 1.

Tim Callahan, FLMI, was elected second vice president and assistant controller – Ameritas. In this role, Tim’s major responsibilities include trading, pricing, performance and reporting for all UNIFI separate accounts.

Tim joined Ameritas in January 1987 as an accountant and has held numerous positions in accounting over the past 21 years, including senior accountant, corporate accountant, manager and most recently, assistant vice president. His roles always included involvement in separate account processing and reporting. Previously Tim also was responsible for financial reporting for Ameritas Investment Corp., Ameritas Variable Life Insurance Company and Pathmark.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Tim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. He holds the Series 27 securities license.

Monica Enzweiler was elected second vice president – business technology – Union Central. In this role, she will work with the Individual Division to build its strategy, manage business needs and test for open systems. Open systems include the agent and client portals, outside software that supports the field associates, and new technologies, such as business process management, as they are being adopted by UNIFI. She also is responsible for the field technology team.

Monica started working at Union Central in 2002 as director of e-business and field technology. She has served as second vice president – e-business and field technology and second vice president – business technology – open systems.

She graduated from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, where she earned a B.S.B.A. degree in marketing and supply chain management and her MBA in business strategy and supply chain management.

Janet Gallo was elected vice president and associate general counsel for Acacia Life, Ameritas Life and Union Central Life.

In this position, Janet is responsible for handling employment and benefit-related legal issues; minimizing the risk of employment and benefit-related liability; conducting internal grievance investigations; providing advice and strategy with respect to human resource policies, guidelines and practices; and representing UNIFI Companies at Federal and state courts, agencies and regulators in employment and benefit disputes.

In July 1994, Janet started her career with Acacia as associate counsel. She has served as assistant vice president and associate counsel, second vice president and associate general counsel as well as chief privacy officer for The Advisors Group, Inc.

Janet earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va., her Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C., and her juris doctorate degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Baltimore, Md.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsel, Association of Life Insurance Counsel and the Society for Human Resource Management. She holds the Series 7 and Series 24 securities licenses.

Gail Garcia was elected vice president – group compliance – Ameritas Life. In her position with Ameritas Group, Gail leads regulatory activities for the group division to support growth and competitiveness while promoting a culture of compliance.

Gail started with the company in April this year after serving as a regulatory consultant since October 2007. Prior to joining Ameritas, she was vice president and director of compliance for CIGNA Dental, where she worked for 31 years.

She graduated from Nova Southeastern University, Davie, Fla., with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Gail is a member and former three-term board member of the National Association of Dental Plans, a member of the Government Relations Commission, Maryland Dental Plan Alliance, America's Health Insurance Plans Dental Committee, HIAA Dental Committee, New Jersey Health Plan Association Dental Committee and Virginia Dental Plan Alliance.

Diane Meyer, FLMI, CMA, was elected second vice president and assistant controller – Ameritas Life. Diane is responsible for the UNIFI expense management function, which includes budgeting, cost allocation and accounts payable functions.

She joined the company in May 1985 as assistant staff auditor in accounting. Other audit services and accounting positions Diane has held include staff auditor, corporate accountant – budget and cost, corporate accountant – individual/cost, manager – financial reporting, and assistant vice president – expense management.

Diane graduated from Kearney (Neb.) State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. She is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants.

David Williams, FLMI, was elected vice president – associate general counsel for Ameritas Life, Acacia Life and Union Central Life. He is responsible for all disputes, both before and after a lawsuit is filed, involving any UNIFI company. He also has responsibility for controlling and tracking outside legal fees and creating and implementing a UNIFI record retention policy and procedure.

David started his career at Ameritas in July 1987 as assistant general counsel. He has served as assistant vice president and associate general counsel and most recently as second vice president and associate general council.

He graduated with a B.A. degree in English from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and earned his juris doctorate from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.

David is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Missouri State Bar Association, American Corporate Counsel Association, Defense Research Institute and ACLI National Committee on Litigation.
